South beaches in Zakynthos, Greece

Today I’m going to write about some of the most beautiful beaches in South Zakynthos. I’m sure you will fall in love just as I did it.
Agio Sostis is the next bay along from Laganas Beach and it is one of the most beautiful little resorts in Zante. The tavernas and restaurants by the beachside offer some unique experiences with a real Greek Atmosphere. Here in Agio Sostis you will find a small island called Cameo Island.

Cameo Island is a stunning little island that you have to visit. You can cross the bridge for free, but if you want to go inside, you’ll have to pay for it after you take the stairs, it is around €5 but this price includes one drink (beer, a glass of wine, juice).

Laganas is the most popular and crowded town on the island. The beach is almost 9km long with warm, shallow waters. It is also part of the National Water Park because the Caretta-Caretta turtles lay their eggs here. It is a fully organised beach providing water-sports, various beach bars, cafes and taverns. In my opinion, I found the beach quite dirty and the water dark compared with the rest of the island. I think it is more for those who want a busy nightlife.

Kalamaki is the continuity of Laganas. It is a sandy beach with warm, crystal clear shallow waters. Several streets lead to the beach, making easily accessible. Most shops are found in the centre of Kalamaki, the variety is great and for all tastes. We didn’t visit this one.

Limni Keriou is a traditional village at the top of the hill. At the sea-front, you can find a few local tavernas, cafes and bars with a marvellous view. From here, at the small port, we hired a boat and we visited the Keri Caves and Maratossini Island.
Limni Keriou, Zakynthos, GreeceThis trip was so cool since we had the small boat for just the two of us, we could stop anywhere and dive into the crystal clear turquoise waters. Incredible!
We rented from Captain’s Motor Rent at Limni Keri Main Road. The price is €70 for 4 hours. Pretty good deal!

Keri Caves: you can only access it by the sea but is definitely worth visiting. Just off Limni Keriou, you can find this little paradise of crystal clear turquoise waters and a series of caves. Many divers visit the area as well as visitors on catamaran tours or boat trips.  With the boat that we rented, we could be 100 metres from the coast and we stopped various times to swim in these unbelievable waters.

Keri Lighthouse: instead of seeing the sunset from Porto Schiza we decided to observe it from Keri, and we do not regret it at all. It was unbelievable.
Keri Lighthouse view, Zakynthos, GreeceThe lighthouse is situated on the edge of a cliff, but it’s closed to the public. However, to see the sunset, you can park your car (you will need one to get there), and on your right, there is a small path. Follow it to see the breathtaking views.
Keri lighthouse sunset, Zakynthos, GreeceThere is a tavern a few metres from the lighthouse, so what we did was to go to the Tavern, we ate something there (delicious by the way!), took loads of pictures of the most amazing views I’ve ever seen and then we went to where you can park the car to watch the sundown.

Mizithres: one excursion not to be missed is the sea stacks of Mizithres, located exactly under the lighthouse in Keri. These two white rocks (one big and one smaller) contrast with the crystal blue water and it’s stunning.
We saw it when we rent the boat and also from the Lighthouse Tavern. I can say that it was one of the most beautiful scenery I’ve ever seen in my life. Unfortunately the batteries of my camera had finished and I could only take pictures with my mobile.

Marathias is beautiful with green waters on a pebbled beach.  To reach you have to walk a few minutes in a not paved road. It’s worth it…

Marathonisi is a small uninhabited island at Laganas bay and is a protected wildlife area by the National Marine Park. It’s worth visiting for a dive into the crystal clear waters and sandy beaches. The sea turtles also prefer it to lay their eggs there. We went there with our little rented boat but there is regular excursion from Laganas or Keri/Limni Keriou.

It is amazing, isn’t it? I’m sure you will have a wonderful time…
