Kalkan is one of those places I stumbled upon and instantly felt at ease. Located about 45 miles from Kaş, this town has a laid-back vibe that makes it stand out from the more touristy spots along the coast.
The town center is a maze of narrow, winding streets, lined with charming whitewashed Ottoman Greek houses and unique boutiques. It’s easy to get lost here, but in the best possible way.

One of the things I loved most about Kalkan was its mix of relaxed harbour lounges and rooftop restaurants where you can enjoy traditional Turkish dishes with a modern twist.
The views over the town and the Mediterranean Sea are incredible, and they made every meal feel like an event.
If you’re looking for a place where you can just unwind and enjoy, Kalkan is it. For me, it was hands down my favorite town in the area.

Nature and Adventure
Kalkan isn’t just a pretty face, though. The town is a gateway to some amazing outdoor experiences. One of the most famous attractions around here is the Lycian Way. This 310-mile trail winds through deserted beaches, lush forests, and towering peaks, offering some of the best hiking I’ve done in Turkey. If you’re into outdoor adventures, this is the place to get immersed in nature.
Charming Beaches and Views
The beaches in Kalkan are another reason to visit. The town’s main beach is small but charming, with crystal-clear water and a relaxed atmosphere. It’s perfect for a quiet afternoon, whether you’re swimming or lounging in the sun.
We enjoyed it so much that we ended up spending an entire day there. While we were relaxing, a massive turtle swam by, making the experience feel even more magical.
If you’re looking for something a little more secluded, there are hidden coves along the coast that are accessible by boat. These quieter spots offer a peaceful alternative to the more crowded beaches in the area.

Boat Trips from Kalkan
Speaking of boats, one of the best ways to experience Kalkan is by water. There are plenty of boat trips departing from the harbour, offering everything from half-day excursions to full-day tours. These boats take you to nearby islands, secluded beaches, and hidden coves.
A Taste of Tradition
The food in Kalkan didn’t disappoint, either. Fresh seafood is a staple here, and I definitely indulged. One dish I highly recommend is “kuzu tandır,” a slow-cooked lamb that’s simply delicious. Whether you’re having a casual meal by the sea or something more upscale on a rooftop, the food here pairs perfectly with the atmosphere.
When to Go?
Avoiding July and August is a good idea as these months are particularly busy due to the school holidays, and the town can get crowded with families.

How to Get There?
Getting to Kalkan is pretty straightforward, and there are several options depending on how you prefer to travel:
As I mentioned, we rented a car. So if that is the case for you, I suggest you have a look at Discover Cars. They offer you a platform to compare rental options from various providers and choose a vehicle that fits your preferences. They are very reliable and an excellent price. You can compare car rental prices with Discover Cars.
Why Kalkan?
Kalkan is the kind of place that lets you relax but also offers plenty to do. It’s got a great balance of adventure and downtime, with natural beauty, delicious food, and plenty of spots to explore.
For me, Kalkan quickly became one of my favorite spots on the Turkish Mediterranean coast. If you’re looking for a place that combines charm, adventure, and great food, this is it.
