Giethoorn is increasingly gaining the attention of tourists, who usually make a day trip from Amsterdam, just to visit this enchanting village.
The small town is located in the province of Overijssel in the east of the Netherlands, around 76 miles (122 km) from Amsterdam.
The village is so beautiful that it looks like it came out of a fairy tale, with the tiny canals, the lovely architecture of the houses and the green surroundings.
If you are driving to Giethoorn, you need to leave the car in one of the parking lots, as in there you can only walk or go around by boat.
We left the car in a paid parking lot a little further from the centre, at the De Kruumte Hotel and Restaurant and we took a boat right in front of the parking. Address: Kerkweg 48A
We pilot the boat ourselves, although there are tourist boats as well if you want to only seat and relax, but you have to walk to the town centre to know more information about it.
The tour was beautiful, we went through various canals which gave us an idea on how charming the village is.
Tip: go early to the village and take the boat trip first thing because as it gets later, more and more boats take the same route and it is more difficult to take good pictures and enjoy the canals peacefully.
Tourist attractions:
– Binnenpad Street – a beautiful street with several shops, museums, restaurants, etc.
– The Histomobil – car museum
– Het Olde Maat Uus Museum – rural museum
– Museum of Oude Aarde – museum of stones and minerals. More info here (in Dutch): https://www.deoudeaarde.nl
– Boat tour
There is no doubt that this village is a must see in the Netherlands. You won’t regret making a trip there. I assure you!
Enjoy the tour and have a lovely day.
